Solution
For the settings before sending/receiving e-mail/I-fax (related information), setting the IP address (related information), confirming necessary information for sending/receiving e-mail and I-fax (related information), and setting the machine for sending/receiving e-mail and I-fax are required.
This section describes the machine settings for sending/receiving e-mail and I-fax after setting the IP address and confirming necessary information for sending/receiving e-mail and I-fax.
For some network providers, settings for the SMTP authentication or POP before SMTP authentication may be required. Make the settings as required.
Settings from the Machine (E-Mail/I-fax)
To set up the Scan to E-mail and I-fax function, follow the procedure below.
The default settings are as follows:
- <POP Auth. Before Send> : <Off>
- <SMTP Authentication> : <Off>
1. Press
(Main Menu).
2. Press the right Any key to select <Additional Func.>.
3. Use [

(Scroll Wheel) to select <System Management Set.>, then press [OK].
If the System Manager ID and System Password have been set, enter the System Manager ID and System Password using

(Log In/Out).

5. Press the right Any key to select <Done>.

8. Use the software keyboard to enter the SMTP server address, then press the right Any key to select <Set>.
- Enter the SMTP server name if the SMTP server address already registered in the DNS server.
- Enter the IP address of the SMTP server if the SMTP server address is not registered in the DNS server.
9. Use [

(Scroll Wheel) to select <E-mail Address>, then press [OK].
10. Use the software keyboard to enter the e-mail address for this machine, then press the right Any key to select <Set>.
- If your provider uses the SMTP authentication method, proceed to the next step.
- If your provider does not use any authentication program, proceed to step 21.
NOTE
SMTP authentication is a method in which the SMTP server checks the user name and password before sending e-mails.

17. Use the software keyboard to enter the SMTP user name for the authentication method, then press the right Any key to select <Set>.

19. Use the software keyboard to enter the SMTP password for the authentication method, then press the right Any key to select <Set>.
20. Press the right Any key to select <Set>.
21. Press
(Main Menu) to return to the Main Menu screen.
Turn OFF the machine and wait at least 10 seconds before turning it ON again.
If your provider does not use any authentication program, proceed to "Specifying the destination."
When POP before SMTP Authentication is Used
When POP before SMTP authentication is used, follow the procedure below to set up the Sending E-mail/I-fax function.
NOTE
If your provider uses this method, you need to make settings both to receive and send e-mails and I-faxes on this machine.
1. Press
(Main Menu).
2. Press the right Any key to select <Additional Func.>.
3. Use [

When a POP server is used, follow the procedure below to set up the E-mail and I-fax reception function.
1. Press

2. Press the right Any key to select <Additional Func.>.
3. Use [

- The accepted message format and file types are as follows:
- Message format: Plain text
- File types: TIFF-F (MH, MR, MMR compression), JPEG, Exif JPEG (Exif 2.2)
- You must register the host name of the machine with the DNS server if you want to receive e-mails and I-faxes using the machine's own SMTP receiving function.

14. Use the software keyboard to enter the POP address, then press the right Any key to select <Set>.

You can also use the numeric keys to enter the interval.

Turn OFF the machine and wait at least 10 seconds before turning it ON again.
Registering E-Mail/I-Fax Addresses
To send an e-mail/I-fax, specifying address is required. As well as entering an e-mail/I-fax address directly, you can specify the e-mail/I-fax address using the Address Book or One-touch registered beforehand. This section describes the instructions on how to register e-mail/I-fax addresses in the Address Book or One-touch.
NOTE
- If your own e-mail address is stored, you can specify a reply e-mail address.
- This section describes how to register destinations from the Additional Functions screen. You can also register destinations from the Select Send Type screen, as follows:
- In the Select Send Type screen, use [

(Scroll Wheel) to select <Address Book>, then press [OK].
- Press the left Any key to select <Reg/Edit/Erase>.
- Use [
] , [
] or
(Scroll Wheel) to select <Register New Dest. to Add. Book>, then press [OK].
- Follow the procedure described in this section from step 6.
- Registering destinations in the Address Book is available only for the imageCLASS MF9170C.
- If you use the imageCLASS MF8450C, register destinations in One-touch.
Storing in the Address Book
1. Press
(Main Menu).
2. Press the right Any key to select <Additional Func.>.

If a password has been set for the Address Book, enter the password to enter Address Book Settings menu. Enter the password using

Registered destinations are sorted in the Address Book by name, in the alphabetical order.

11. Use the software keyboard to enter the recipient's e-mail/I-fax address.
You can enter up to 120 characters for e-mail/I-fax address.
12. If you are finished, press the right Any key to select <Set>.
13. Press the right Any key to select <Register>.
If you want to register another e-mail/I-fax address, repeat from step 6.
14. Press the right Any key to select <Done>.
15. Press
(Main Menu) to return to the Main Menu screen.
Storing in One-touch
1. Press
