SINGAPORE, 6 June 2024 — Canon today announced the Speedlite EL-10, an entry-level Speedlite compatible with the multi-function shoe on EOS R series cameras like the EOS R8, EOS R50, and EOS R6 Mark II. Lightweight with a powerful flash output (guide number: approx. 40) and a tiltable head for bounce flash photography and high-speed sync, it has ample features for users who are starting to discover flash photography.

In addition, advanced features like radio transmission functions make the new Speedlite a viable option for users who are exploring multi-flash photography.

“The Speedlite EL-10 redefines versatility, offering advanced features and customisable options in an intuitive package. Whether you're new to flash photography or a seasoned professional, its compact design delivers exceptional performance. Empowering photographers to unleash their creativity, the Speedlite ensures stunning images in any scenario. With precise control, wireless capabilities, and seamless integration with Canon's ecosystem, it's the ultimate tool for pushing creative boundaries and capturing unforgettable moments.”, said David Yeo, Senior Marketing Manager of Consumer Business, Singapore Operations, Canon Singapore.

    Take Better Lit Photos
Photography is about capturing light. In situations where ambient light is limited, a Speedlite outshines a built-in flash in terms of both power and functionality.

With its guide number of approximately 401 and coverage from 24 mm to 105 mm (14 mm with wide panel), the Speedlite EL-10 is far more powerful than a built-in flash. Users can take well-lit shots even of distant subjects which is perfect for handheld night portraits and capturing background scenery.

For situations where a direct flash is too harsh, its flash head can be tilted up to 90° upwards, 150° left, and 180° right. This provides flexibility for bounce flash photography, in which the light from the flash is fired at and bounced off a surface to diffuse it and produce more natural results.

The Speedlite EL-10 is also equipped with a High Speed Sync function, which enables the flash to be fired when using shutter speeds faster than the normal flash sync speed (around 1/200 to 1/250 sec on most cameras). In addition to freezing action, this also lets users using the flash as a fill light for backlit portraits to take full advantage of their wide aperture lenses. Users can now open up their aperture and achieve beautiful background bokeh without the background being overexposed.

When shooting continuously with the Speedlite, users can enjoy smooth and fast-paced firing. If shooting at full power, up to approximately 55 continuous flashes can be fired with a recycling time of approximately 2.5 seconds2. This is possible due to improved circuit board heat dissipation.

    Equipped with Advanced Functions
Besides fundamental features, the Speedlite EL-10 incorporates advanced functions similar to its more advanced counterparts like the Speedlite EL-5:

    • Precise output control
It is the first Canon Speedlite in its class capable of output as low as 1/1024, allowing the fine control required for subtle lighting and close-up shooting.

    • Off-camera shooting
The Speedlite EL-10 supports radio transmission and can function as both sender and receiver during multi-flash shooting. As a sender, it can control up to five groups.

    • Wireless control via Camera Connect app
Users can configure and adjust wireless flash settings, fire the flash, and check the image on their smart devices without touching their setup. This is ideal for self-portraits, shoots with limited crew, and setups with the gear in hard-to-reach places.

    • Seamless recall of frequently used settings
Three custom flash mode slots (C1/C2/C3) let users store custom flash settings. These can be linked with the camera’s custom shooting modes for even easier access and seamless operability. The FE memory mode, which enables users to recall flash power settings used in E-TTL mode when switching to manual mode to make fine adjustments, can also now be accessed, and adjusted from the camera in addition to the flash. This results in a smoother workflow without taking one’s hands off the camera.

    Small, Light, and Convenient
The Speedlite EL-10 is lightweight at approximately 287 g (without batteries), around 40% lesser in weight when compared to its more advanced counterpart, the Speedlite EL-5. This makes it extra portable, especially when the Speedlite EL-10 is used on-camera. It is powered by four versatile AA batteries, which can be conveniently replaced when they run out.

    Pricing and Availability
The pricing and availability of the Speedlite EL-10 will be advised at a later date.
