Setting the ISO Speed (EOS 5DS / EOS 5DS R)

Set the ISO speed (image sensor’s sensitivity to light) to suit the ambient light level.

In [

] mode, the ISO speed is set automatically.

1. Set the camera's power switch to [ON].

2. Set the Mode Dial to [ P / Tv / Av / M / B ].

3. Press the [

・ISO ] button.

4. While looking at the LCD panel or the viewfinder, turn the [

] dial to set the ISO speed.

NOTE

Overview of ISO speed settings

ISO speed	Shooting Situation (No flash)	Flash Range
L, 100 - 400	Sunny outdoors	The higher the ISO speed, the farther the flash range will be.
400 - 1600	Overcast skies or evening time
1600 - 6400, H	Dark indoors or night

^* High ISO speeds will result in grainier images.

IMPORTANT

As H (equivalent to ISO 12800) is expanded ISO speed settings, noise (dots of light, banding, etc.) and irregular colors will be more noticeable, and the resolution lower than usual
As L (equivalent to ISO 50) is an expanded ISO speed setting, the dynamic range will be somewhat narrower than usual.
If [ : Highlight tone priority] is set to [Enable], L (equivalent to ISO 50), ISO 100/125/160, and H (equivalent to ISO 12800) cannot be selected.
Shooting in high temperatures may result in images that look grainier. Long exposures can also cause irregular colors in the image.
When you shoot at high ISO speeds, noise (such as dots of light and banding) may become noticeable.
When shooting in conditions that produce an extreme amount of noise, such as a combination of high ISO speed, high temperature, and long exposure, images may not be recorded properly.
If you use a high ISO speed and flash to shoot a close subject, overexposure may result.

REFERENCE

Under [ : ISO speed settings], you can use [ISO speed range] to expand the settable ISO speed range from L (equivalent to ISO 50) to H (equivalent to ISO 12800)

If the ISO speed is set to "A" (Auto), the actual ISO speed to be set will be displayed when you press the shutter button halfway.

As indicated below, the ISO speed will be set automatically to suit the shooting mode.

*1: The actual ISO speed range depends on the [Minimum] and [Maximum] settings set in [Auto ISO range].

*2: If fill flash will cause overexposure, ISO speed may be reduced, down to a possible minimum of ISO 100 (except in the [M] and [B] modes).

*3: In the [P] mode, if the external Speedlite is set for bounce flash, ISO 400 - ISO 1600 will be set automatically.
