Solution
You can display the electronic level on the LCD monitor and in the viewfinder to help you correct camera tilt. Note that you can check only the horizontal tilt and not the forward/backward tilt.
Displaying the Electronic Level on the LCD Monitor
1. Set the camera's power switch to [ON].
2. Press the [INFO.] button to display the electronic level.
Each time you press the [INFO.] button, the screen display will change.
NOTE
If the electronic level does not appear, set [
:
button display options] so that the electronic level can be displayed.
3. Check the camera’s tilt.
- The horizontal tilt is displayed in 1° increments. The tilt scale is marked in 5° increments.
- When the red line turns green, it indicates that the tilt is almost corrected.

: Tilt
IMPORTANT
- Even when the tilt is corrected, there may be a margin of error of approx. ±1°.
- If the camera is very tilted, the electronic level’s margin of error will be larger.
NOTE
During Live View shooting and before movie shooting (except with
+ Tracking), you can also display the electronic level as described above.
Displaying the Electronic Level in the Viewfinder
A simple electronic level using a camera icon can be displayed in the viewfinder. Since this can be displayed while you shoot, you can correct any tilt during handheld shooting.
1. Press the [MENU] button to display the menu screen.
2. Press the [
], [
] keys to select the [
] tab.
3. Press the [
], [
] keys to select [Viewfinder display], then press [
].
4. Press the [
], [
] keys to select [Electronic level], then press [
].
5. Press the [
], [
] keys to select [Show], then press [
].
6. Press the shutter button halfway.
- The () electronic level will appear as shown in the illustration.
- This also works with vertical shooting
