Selecting the appropriate camcorder settings
When connecting the camcorder to another device, you need to select the appropriate camcorder settings.
Make sure that you check the following section before connecting your camcorder to another device.
1. Connect the camcorder to a compact power adapter.
IMPORTANT
When connecting the camcorder to another device, using the compact power adapter.Data may be lost if the power is disconnected while the camcorder's ACCESS indicator is blinking.
2. Press the <
> button to playback mode.
3. Check the playback screen.
Make sure that the mode that indicates where movies and photos are recorded is displayed.
- To read AVCHD movies: Open the [AVCHD Movies] or [AVCHD Gallery] index screen.
- To read MP4 movies: Open the [MP4 Movies] index screen.
- To read photos: Open the [Photos] index screen.
Cautionary notes on connecting the camcorder to a computer
- When the camcorder is connected to a computer:
- Do not open the memory card slot cover and do not remove the memory card.
- Do not access, change or delete any of the camcorder’s folders or files directly from the computer as this may result in permanent data loss. Always use only the supplied software to save your recordings on the computer and, if necessary, to transfer back previously saved video files to the camcorder.
- Observe the following precautions while the ACCESS indicator is on or flashing. Failing to do so may result in permanent data loss.
- Do not open the memory card slot cover.
- Do not disconnect the USB cable.
- Do not turn off the camcorder or the computer.
- Do not change the camcorder’s operating mode.
- When restoring to the camcorder video files that were previously saved to the computer, do not disconnect the USB cable or turn off the camcorder or computer. Doing so may result in scenes that cannot be played back on the camcorder.
- Operation may not work correctly depending on the specifications/settings of your computer.
- If you wish to use the recordings on your computer, make copies of them first. Use the copied files, retaining the originals.

Cautionary notes on connecting to an external hard drive
- If the USB cable supplied with the external hard drive has a standard-A connector, you will need to use the optional UA-100 USB Adapter or a commercially available USB adapter.
- Make sure you power the camcorder with the compact power adapter before you save a memory to the external hard drive. If the compact power adapter becomes disconnected, the connection between the camcorder and the hard drive will end, which may lead to the corruption of data in the hard drive.
- Initialize the external hard drive when you use it with this camcorder for the first time.
- You cannot use the following types of external hard drives.
- USB-powered portable hard drives
- Hard drives with a capacity over 2 TB
- USB flash drives or media connected to card readers
- If the external hard drive is partitioned, only the first partition will be recognized.
- Observe the following precautions while the external hard drive's access indicator is on or flashing.
- Do not disconnect the USB cable.
- Do not disconnect the camcorder or the external hard drive.
- Do not change the camcorder's operating mode
