    Cleaning the Inside of the Printer

    Solution

    If the printed paper is smudged, the inside of the printer may be dirty.
    To always get best quality printing result, periodical cleaning of that part is recommended.
    You can clean that part in two ways:
    • "Cleaning with the Printer Driver".
    • "Cleaning the Protrusions inside the Printer".

    Cleaning with the Printer Driver
    NOTE
    • Ensure that the Inner Cover is closed. Cleaning the Inside of the Printer without a Computer
    • The inside of the printer can also be cleaned without a computer; it can be performed from the printer itself.
    1. Ensure that the printer is turned on, and then remove any paper from the Auto Sheet
    Feeder.
    2. Gently press the mark on the Front Tray to open the Front Tray, then pull out the Front Tray Extension.
    3. Fold a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in half lengthwise, and then unfold it.
    4. Load this and only this sheet of paper in landscape orientation in the Auto Sheet Feeder with the open side to the front.
    5. Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button and release it when the POWER lamp flashes blue five times.
    The paper cleans the inside of the printer as it feeds through the printer.
    If the ejected paper is smudged, perform the Bottom Plate Cleaning again.
    If the problem is not resolved after performing the Bottom Plate Cleaning twice, the protrusions inside the printer may be stained. Clean them according to instructions. See "Cleaning the Protrusions inside the Printer".

    1. Ensure that the printer is turned on, and then remove any paper from the Auto Sheet Feeder.
    2. Gently press the mark on the Front Tray to open the Front Tray, then
    pull out the Front Tray Extension.

    4. Load this and only this sheet of paper in landscape orientation in the Auto Sheet Feeder with the open side to the front.
    NOTE
    To perform Bottom Plate Cleaning properly, you need to load this sheet of paper in landscape orientation unlike in the case of normal printing.

    *1 Load the paper after unfolding it.
    5. Open the printer properties dialog box.
    6. Click the Maintenance tab, and then Bottom Plate Cleaning.
    7. Follow the instructions displayed in the message.
    The paper cleans the inside of the printer as it feeds through the printer.
    If the ejected paper is smudged, perform the Bottom Plate Cleaning again.

    5. Open the Canon IJ Printer Utility dialog box.
    6. Ensure that Cleaning is selected in the pop-up menu.
    7. Click Bottom Plate Cleaning.
    8. Follow the instructions displayed in the message.
    The paper cleans the inside of the printer as it feeds through the printer.
    If the ejected paper is smudged, perform the Bottom Plate Cleaning again.
    If the problem is not resolved after performing the Bottom Plate Cleaning twice, the protrusions inside the printer may be stained. Clean them according to instructions. See "Cleaning the Protrusions inside the Printer".

    Cleaning the Protrusions inside the Printer
    If protrusions inside the printer are stained, wipe ink off the protrusions using a swab or the like.
    IMPORTANT
    Before cleaning, be sure to turn off the printer.
