Cannot scan film

    Issue

    You do not know how to set a film on the scanner.
    You do not know how to adjust the driver's settings when scanning film.
    Computer stops operating during scanning.

    Cause and Solution

    The cable of the film adapter unit is disconnected.
    Reconnect the cable of the film adapter unit to the FAU cable on the scanner.
    Preparing to Scan Film

    The film adapter unit is not in position.
    Place the film adapter glass on the document glass correctly.
    Setting Film
    Place the film in the film guide.
    Place the film face up in the film guide (images and words should read correctly from above) with the spaces between frames aligned with the white lines (1) on the guide.

    [Executes calibration.] is displayed when trying to scan
    Perform calibration and see if it solve the problem.
    Executing Calibration for the first scan
    Calibration is required when film is first scanned. Calibration is the process to adjust to the correct color balance.
    (The operation in ArcSoft PhotoStudio and the Simple Mode of ScanGear CS is used as an example. )

    The document cover is not closed.
    Close the document cover properly.

    ScanGear CS or CanoScan Toolbox is not set for scanning film.
    Solution 1: In [Select Source] of ScanGear CS, select [Negative Film(Color)] or [Positive Film(Color)] in the Simple Mode, or [Color Negative Film], [Color Positive Film], [Monochrome Negative Film] or [Monochrome Positive Film] in the Advanced Mode.
    Solution 2: Select [Film] or [Auto mode] in [Select Source] of CanoScan Toolbox.

    To scan films into an application program, you can start ScanGear CS from within the program.
    In the Simple Mode, there are only a few simple procedures.

    In the Advanced Mode, you can change the resolution and use various functions to scan, including color correction and filters.

    Scanning Film with Toolbox
    1. Set the film on the scanner.
    (1) Place the film adapter unit on the scanner and set a film strip.
    (2) Close the document cover.

    Resolution setting is too high and scanning stops partway through.
    Adjust the resolution and scan again.
    Scanning may stop partway through if the resolution setting is too high.
    You can adjust the resolution by changing the setting of ScanGear or CanoScan Toolbox.
