    Displaying the Electronic Level (EOS 70D)

    Solution

    You can display the electronic level on the LCD monitor and in the viewfinder to help correct camera tilt. Note that you can check only the horizontal tilt and not the forward/backward tilt.
    NOTE

    IMPORTANT
    • Even when the tilt is corrected, there is a margin of error of ±1 degree.
    • If the camera is significantly tilted, the electronic level’s margin of error will be greater.
    • If the Depth-of-field preview button has been assigned with the [VF electronic level], depth-of-field preview will not work.

    Displaying the Electronic Level on the LCD Monitor
    1. Set the power switch to <ON>.



    2. Press the <INFO.> button.
    Each time you press the <INFO.> button, the screen display will change.


    NOTE
    If the electronic level does not appear, first select [ ] from the menu, then [INFO. button display options], and finally [Electronic level] in the window that appears on the LCD monitor.

    3. Check the camera’s tilt.
    • The horizontal tilt is displayed in 1 degree increments.
    • When the red line turns green, it indicates that the tilt is corrected.


    NOTE
    • During Live View shooting and before movie shooting you can also display the electronic level. However, the level cannot be displayed when the [ + Tracking] AF mode is set. (As [ + Tracking] is the default AF mode for Live View shooting, the AF mode must be changed in order to display the electronic level.)
    • The electronic level cannot be displayed during movie shooting. (The electronic level will disappear when you start shooting a movie.)

    Displaying the Electronic Level in the Viewfinder (Shooting)
    When using the viewfinder for shooting, A simple electronic level using a camera icon can be displayed in the viewfinder at the center bottom. Since this can be displayed while you shoot, you can correct any tilt during handheld shooting.
    Display is also possible during vertical shooting.

    1. Set the camera’s power switch to <ON>.



    2. Press the <MENU> button to display the menu screen.



    3. Under the [ ] tab, select [Viewfinder level], then press <>.



    4. Select [Show], then press <>. Press the <MENU> button to close the menu screen.



    5. Press the shutter button halfway.
    The electronic level will appear as shown in the illustration.



    This also works with vertical shooting.
    Horizontal Tilt 1° Tilt 2° or higher

    Displaying the Electronic Level in the Viewfinder (Before Shooting)
    The electronic level display in the viewfinder and on the LCD panel uses the exposure level scale. Note that the electronic level is only displayed when shooting in horizontal orientation. It is not displayed in vertical orientation.

    1. Set the power switch to <ON>.



    2. Press the <MENU> button to display the menu.



    3.Under the [ ] tab, select [C.Fn III: Operation/Others], then press <>.



    4. Press <> to select [4:Custom Controls], and then press <>.



    5. Select [ :DOF preview button], and then press <>.



    6. Select [ : VF electronic level], then press <>.
    Press the <MENU> button to exit the menu.



    7.Display the electronic level.
    • Press the Depth-of-field preview
    button.
    -The viewfinder will display an electronic level and grid using the AF points.
