Multi-function Shoe

The Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) is compatible with the new Multi-function Shoe design found in our newer camera models released from EOS R3 onwards. It can be easily mounted on newer cameras without the need for an adapter.

It supports high-speed data communication between the Speedlite and camera. Compared to the existing 5-pin Speedlites, the 15-pin gold-plated terminals do not oxidise easily, reduce contact resistance, and provide a more stable connection.

*When using the Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) with the EOS R3, EOS R7, or EOS R10, the camera must be updated to the firmware version released in spring 2023 or later.

The Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) offers quick and reliable flash performance similar to Speedlite EL-1. By emitting continuous strobe flashes, the unit illuminates moving subjects and helps reduce the delay time between photos.

High continuous flash emissions at 95 times or more*

Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) is fanless but has a continuous flash count of approx. 95 times or more at full output. This enables you to meet the most demanding situations where continuous shooting with flash is required even for extended durations.

Micro flash

With the ability to vary the output power of the flash between 1/1 and 1/1024, you will be able to control and reduce the intensity of the flash to match the atmosphere of the scene.

The wide range of output levels allows more flexibility for creativity in flash photography in different shooting situations.

High-speed sync

With higher shutter speeds, large apertures can be used even during an outdoor shoot, making it possible to achieve beautiful background blur effects.

Equipped with wireless radio transmission, the Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) is designed for a multi-flash shooting environment. As a sender unit, it can control up to 15 receiver units in up to 5 groups. When paired with the EOS R6 Mark III, the Quick flash group control feature allows adjusting of each flash group settings directly from the camera LCD.

Compared to the predecessor model, the Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) offers a more stable connection and an improved transmission range up to 50 m even in a crowded radio wave environment when using multiple flashes.

Canon's Camera Connect (smartphone app)

Settings of each Speedlite unit can be changed wirelessly via the app in a multi-flash setup as well, offering complete control and convenience at the same time.

Higher capacity battery

The Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) uses a high-capacity battery LP-EL for reliable, extended sessions of flash photography. It has no cooling fan, so power is used exclusively to fire the approx. up to *350 flashes that the unit can emit, compared to Speedlite EL-1 (approx. 335 times).

Custom flash mode

Customise your own flash modes for easier control during your photo shoot sessions. Flash modes include [C.Flash mode], [Auto update set] and [Camera shoot, mode link].

LED modeling lamp

This wireless flash features an AF-assist beam with automatic light intensity adjustment that lets you control the on/off setting of the receiver unit’s modeling lamp from the sender unit. Light intensity is also suppressed so that people in the shot do not perceive it as being too bright.

Intuitive interface

The memory-in-pixel reflective LCD display panel of the Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) provides a clear view of your settings. The addition of a joystick in the middle of the dial provides a more intuitive way to browse through the menu and to make adjustments.

Weather resistance shoe design

The locking mechanism has a rubber adapter and the rubber footing near the base of the shoe provides the sealing required to prevent dust and moisture from entering when the Speedlite is mounted and locked. 

Dust- & drip-resistant body

The sealing is applied to the exterior parts of Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) and it maintains dustproof and moisture-proof performance equivalent to that of EOS R5, even when shooting under difficult conditions.
