SINGAPORE, 15 May 2025 — Canon Singapore (Canon Singapore Pte. Ltd.) today announced its first ever collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric Asia in Southeast Asia, unveiling a powerful new automation solution integrating Canon’s state-of-the-art Force Torque Sensor FH-300-20 with Mitsubishi Electric’s MELFA FR series FR PLUS industrial robots. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in bringing precision robotics to industries across the region. The combined solution will be showcased for the first time in Southeast Asia1 at SEMICON Southeast Asia 2025.

“This collaboration represents a significant step forward in advancing robotics automation across the region,” said Kobe Kazuhiro, Senior Director, Industrial Products, Canon Singapore. “Because of labour shortages and for efficient workflow, automation of various tasks has become necessary, making force sensors more attractive. An example of their usage would be that they can equip robot arms with human-like senses to carry out tasks that require delicate application of force. These sensors can also be used in various devices that require fine adjustments, which could lead to a potential growth in demand.”

The integration of force torque sensors in robotics exemplifies how advanced technology can transform traditional manufacturing, making it more reliable and efficient. Force torque sensors are crucial in monitoring and controlling manufacturing processes such as tightening screws, pressing components, and material testing.

For Canon’s Force Torque Sensor FH-300-20, the thin, lightweight, high-precision 6-axis sensor has been designed to enable delicate yet accurate control in robotic applications. The encoder technology reduces signal noise, allowing for clearer force feedback and smoother control, which is especially beneficial in high-speed automated environments. Additionally, its enhanced durability ensures reliable performance even under continuous operation, reducing maintenance needs and downtime.

By detecting even subtle changes in force and torque, the sensor enables robotic arms to replicate the nuanced touch of a human hand. This allows for safe, accurate handling of sensitive component which is crucial for operations like gear alignment, insertion tasks, or material handling that require delicate force adjustment.
