Canon Singapore and the National Library Board Launch Community Recycling Programme

SINGAPORE, 25 September 2024 — Canon Singapore Pte. Ltd. (Canon Singapore) has launched an ink and toner cartridge recycling programme in collaboration with the National Library Board (NLB), with recycling boxes placed at various NLB libraries across Singapore, providing convenience for the community to recycle used cartridges.
Participating locations include the National Library Building, and four regional libraries in Jurong, Punggol, Tampines and Woodlands.
Guided by its corporate philosophy of kyosei, which means ‘living and working together for the common good’, Canon has always been committed to contributing to environmental sustainability. By partnering NLB, which has a deep community presence throughout Singapore, this joint effort seeks to promote a culture of recycling and responsible resource management within the community.
This recycling programme also aligns with the Singapore Green Plan 2030’s focus on Sustainable Living, encouraging more recycling towards the vision of being a Zero Waste Nation. Through this programme, Canon hopes to demonstrate its commitment to environmental stewardship by creating awareness on the importance of regular recycling. Moving forward, there are plans to expand the recycling initiative to additional libraries across the island.
The collected ink/toner cartridges will be sent to a recycling facility, where the cartridges will be dismantled. Extracted metals and plastics will be processed for recovery into raw materials that can be used for new products. Non-recyclable parts will be sent to an incineration plant for waste-to-energy conversion.

These libraries are strategically located in high-traffic areas, making it convenient for anyone to drop off ink and toner cartridges of any brand at any time. We hope this programme will also help build awareness about good recycling habits.”
To complement its community efforts, Canon will continue to work with its corporate customers to arrange for used cartridge collection upon request, when new toner orders are placed and delivered. Canon customers can also continue to drop off their used ink and toner cartridges at Canon Singapore’s Customer Care Centre.
