    Solution

RAW images are "raw" (unprocessed) data, recorded with essentially no loss of image quality from the camera’s internal image processing. Use Digital Photo Professional to adjust RAW images as desired with minimal loss of image quality.
    IMPORTANT
    • To set [RAW] () or [RAW+JPEG] (), the [Shooting Mode] must be set to one of the following modes:
    - [Custom]* (), [Manual] (), [Aperture Priority AE] (), [Shutter Speed Priority AE] (), [Program AE] ()
    * Options vary depending on the assigned shooting mode.

    1. Press the <Power> button to turn the camera on.

    2. Press the <FUNC./SET> () button.

    3. The following screen appears.

Press the <><> buttons to choose [JPEG] ()*.
*If the default settings have not been changed, [JPEG] () will be displayed.
Press the <><> buttons or turn the <> dial to choose [RAW] (), or [RAW+JPEG] ().
After making the selection, press the <FUNC./SET> () button.
    NOTE
    • When transferring RAW images (or RAW and JPEG images recorded together) to a computer, always use the dedicated software ( [CameraWindow], [ImageBrowser EX], or [Digital Photo Professional].)
    • With [RAW] (), or [RAW+JPEG] the noise reduction level, [i-Contrast], and [My Colors] cannot be configured.
    • To erase () images, display the () image and press <> button. Choose from [Erase RAW], [Erase JPEG], or [Erase RAW+JPEG] to erase the image.
    • The file extension for JPEG images is [.JPG], and the extension for RAW images is [.CR2].

    Image Recording Types
    [JPEG]
Records JPEG images. JPEG images are processed in the camera for optimal image quality and compressed to reduce file size. However, the compression process is irreversible, and images cannot be restored to their original, unprocessed state. Image processing may also cause some loss of image quality.
    [RAW]
Records RAW images. RAW images are "raw" (unprocessed) data, recorded with essentially no loss of image quality from the camera’s image processing. The data cannot be used in this state for viewing on a computer or printing. You must first use the software (Digital Photo Professional) to convert images to ordinary JPEG or TIFF files. Images can be adjusted with minimal loss of image quality. For details on resolution and the number of shots that will fit on a card, see Number of Still Images / Length of Movies That Can Be Recorded on a Memory Card (PowerShot G7X).
    [RAW+JPEG]
Records two images, both a RAW image and a JPEG image, for each shot. The JPEG image can be viewed on a computer or printed without using the software.
