SINGAPORE, 21 September 2018 - Canon today announced the newest addition to its PowerShot line-up, the PowerShot SX70 HS, a powerful superzoom camera designed for simple operability with high functionality. Powered by Canon’s pioneering DIGIC 8 Processor, the compact camera features a 20.3 megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, auto lighting optimiser, and 4K movie shooting. Beyond that, the sharp shooter is enhanced with optical zoom of up to 65x, and is capable of stretching its zoom capabilities to 130x with ZoomPlus technology. No minimum focusing distance is required when shooting, enabling users to expand their macro-photographic expressions. Even with a single lens, capturing high definition photos and videos ranging from extreme close-ups to long-range shots is made a breeze, no matter night or day.

“Enabled by the 65x optical zoom and 21 mm wide-angle lens, the PowerShot SX70 HS offers dual capabilities of capturing both long-range and macro shots,” said Edwin Teoh, Head of Marketing, Singapore Operations, Canon Singapore. “With a host of new features such as 4K video capabilities and panoramic mode, the PowerShot SX70 HS offers the breadth of options for compact camera users to stretch their creative abilities through photography.”

Incredible Zoom with Amazing Macro Photography Performance
The PowerShot SX70 HS is equipped with an optical zoom of up to 65x, and is capable of an expansion reaching 130x with ZoomPlus technology, addressing the challenge of shooting subjects from a distance. With a 20.3 Megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor, users can get closer to the action, capturing high definition and incredible details of birds on trees or animals from a distance, without being intrusive.

The possibilities of macro photography are limitless with the PowerShot SX70 HS. Requiring no minimum focus distance, nature photography lovers can capture the intricate details of the pistils of a flower or the labyrinth of veins on a leaf, while pet owners can grab close-up shots of their pets’ ever-changing expressions.

The PowerShot SX70 HS is ideal for users seeking the creative performance of a DSLR camera with the compact convenience of a point-and-shoot. The camera’s maximum wide angle of 21mm offers users the joy of shooting both extremely close-up and distant shots using the same lens. From taking in the details on a dandelion to looking far to capture sweeping vistas, users will be able to achieve stunning images of both depth and contrast like a DSLR camera, with the convenience of a light and compact camera.

Crisp Sharpness with Rich Image Quality
With the DIGIC 8 imaging processor, the PowerShot SX70 HS features Zoom Framing Assist which adjusts the zoom or the focus to achieve the best composition when shooting, even if the subject moves or the camera shakes. This, together with a speedy autofocus and a continuous burst speed of up to 10 fps, makes capturing spontaneous moments of your active pets or playful toddlers a breeze.

Choose from three levels on the camera’s Auto Lighting Optimiser, which corrects brightness and contrast to the optimum level. It also helps to bring out shadows and details, making an image pop. Sunrise and sunset shots with highlight blowouts can be adjusted to achieve vibrant colours with rich details. With Dual Sensing IS and improved AF speed that helps reduce the effects of camera shakes, superb image quality can be achieved even when shooting in low light conditions.

The new Style setting offers six different options for users to readily express themselves creatively. Moreover, there are further customisation choices to adjust sharpness, contrast, saturation and tone to realise the desired effects to achieve outstanding images.

    Capture Moments in Striking 4K
Achieve spectacular 4K movie resolution with the PowerShot SX70 HS’s Ultra HD video capabilities, which includes a 4K time-lapse function and frame grabs from the footage. Imagine capturing a video of the rapid changes of the sunset and be able to extract the most breath-taking moment from the footage as a high-definition still image.

Users can create high-resolution time-lapse movies easily by selecting their preferred setting on the dedicated time-lapse movie setting.

Another new feature of the PowerShot SX70 HS is its Panoramic shot mode, where users can capture dramatic panoramic shots in both vertical and horizontal formats, simply by holding down the shutter button and panning the camera across from left to right or from top to bottom. With the new in-camera RAW processing feature, users can now shoot in RAW and process the images any time, without the hassle of transferring them to a computer to do so.

    Easy Operability and Ergonomic Design
Comparable to Canon’s EOS range, the PowerShot SX70 HS’s full-fledged 0.39-type approx. 2.36-million dot, high definition Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) presents comfort and accuracy in shooting. With an intuitively designed button layout and dial positioning, users can fully concentrate on the perfect framing to capture that ideal shot through the EVF, without having to fumble with the camera settings. It is now easier to reach the zoom framing button, which is located on the side of the barrel, and the tip of the lens barrel is made of a non-slip material for a better grip. The camera also features a more substantial hand grip that allows for an even steadier hold.

Comfortable View and Connect with Ease
Transferring images from the camera to a smartphone while shooting can be done effortlessly by syncing the PowerShot SX70 HS’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection to Canon’s Camera Connect app.

When connected to either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, users can browse the photos in the camera using their smartphones without having to hold the camera continuously, and can instantly share their photos on social networks. Users can also utilise their smartphones for remote shooting to avoid camera shakes with no compromise to image quality. With the camera connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth Low Energy technology (BLE)1, the GPS coordinates of each photograph taken on the PowerShot SX70 HS can be effortlessly recorded for categorisation.
