Canon’s corporate philosophy is kyosei, which means ‘to live and work together for the common good’. This is what Canon does every day with its corporate activities. We understand that our business is supported by the development of society as a whole. This is why, as a Good Corporate Citizen, Canon aims to contribute to the realization of a better society by engaging in sound and fair business activities. In addition, we realize that we have an increasingly important role to play in addressing complex social issues that include climate change, frequent natural disasters, poverty and inequality as expressed in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations.
Canon’s sales companies in Asia abide by the basic CSR statement of the Canon Group. In addition, we draw on Group resources such as advanced technological capabilities, global business deployment expertise, and diverse, specialized human resources to engage in activities tailored to characteristics and issues specific to the Asian countries and regions we operate in. Besides reinvesting business profits into local communities, we are also committed to addressing social issues, as we believe such activities are essential to sustainable development. Canon Asia’s social contribution activities are focused on education, community care, environment, and cultural improvement. In times of need, we provide humanitarian support to people facing harsh conditions and natural disasters. Under the umbrella message “Imaging for Good”, we aim to do our part in creating a better and sustainable society with fair chances for all, creating and capturing smiles wherever we go.
We are doing our part to promote mental wellness among youths. Through a collaboration with ReMind Singapore, 6000 postcards were printed using the Canon’s VarioPrint i300 machine. These postcards were then distributed to students of 3 local high schools. Students can personalise their messages or pen down words of encouragement for their peers. Coping with school and adjustments brought by COVID-19 restrictions put the students at risk of increased mental burden. A simple encouragement goes a long way to help provide hope, support, and build mental resilience among youths.
Since 2014, the EOS Academy school programme offers a wide array of photography and videography courses to all schools and institutions based in Singapore ranging from fundamental technique training to advance courses on top of complimentary programmes - “Introduction to Photography” and “Introduction to Videography”. The workshops expose students to the world of photography with new knowledge in handling cameras and enhance the learners’ skills in storytelling.
Canon Singapore is proud to be part of the Community Chest Fu Dai 2021 event. Four units of our temperature screening solutions, the Facial Access Control Temperature System (FACTS) were deployed during the 3-days event to help screen volunteers and provide easy TraceTogether token check-ins. While the event volunteers work hard to spread joy to the beneficiaries, we are also doing our part to keep everyone safe and healthy.
At Canon, we promote inclusion and embrace diversity. This ethos formed an intrinsic part of Canon’s core philosophy, kyosei. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we firmly believed that no one should be left behind.
In October 2020, Canon Singapore provided several large format stickers and labels to APSN Chaoyang and APSN Katong to help communicate the importance of safe distancing to special needs students. These stickers were printed using the Canon's Colorado 1650 Large format printer and the large format stickers were installed onsite by the staff of Canon Singapore.
As part of Canon Singapore’s efforts to raise awareness on the impact of pollution and how we can do our part to help the environment, a beach cleanup activity was organised at the East Coast Park in November 2019.
Canon staff and family members covered a costal stretch of 1.45 km during the session. On top of being an educational activity, in particular for young family members of Canon staff, the activity saw the group rounded up bags of litters that posed threat to the marine life and the environment.
The Canon PhotoMarathon 2019 has taken an exciting new spin by being held in the heartland for the first time. The venue at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) was specially chosen to get closer to the community.
In line with the objective of Canon PhotoMarathon and our corporate philosophy of kyosei, to promote an inclusive society, the event was extended to a special group of participants from the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) schools. The students were delighted to be part of the action for Canon PhotoMarathon where they could freely express their creativity and imagination through the lenses.
Canon also contribute to the community wellbeing through its strong support for sports activities.
One excellent example is the 12 years long-standing partnership with Singapore Bowling Federation (SBF), which helps local bowlers realise their full potential at international events like the Asian Games Champion and the World Bowling Women’s Championships.
This long term sponsorship enables SBF to develop more customised programmes to help athletics, and at the same time elevate the popularity of bowling as a national sport in Singapore.
Efforts include energy and resource conservation, elimination of hazardous substances, increasing transportation efficiency to reduce CO2 emissions and utilising product-packaging materials with low environmental burden. Customers can drop off Canon ink and toner cartridges at Canon Customer Care Centre for recycling. Find out more about our Environmental Initiatives.
To cultivate staff awareness and habits to protect the environment, Canon Singapore, as well as all the offices under Canon Asia Marketing Group, participated in the Earth Hour campaign every year, in March.
Staffs were encouraged to participate in Earth Hour by turning off their home lights. This received an overwhelming response with staff voluntarily pledging their support. Earth Hour pledging raised the awareness of climate change and everyone can make a big difference in saving energy.
