HJ40ex10B IASE-V H

Ideal for virtual footage production - 40x EFP lens capable of shooting up to 800mm

Boasting up to 40x magnification, this 2/3-inch HD TV Electric Field Production (EFP) lens for broadcasting use is capable of shooting from a wide-angle 10mm focal length up to a super telephoto 400mm, doubled to 800mm with its built-in 2x extender. With a lens construction that utilizes Hi-UD glass and fluorite lens elements, it provides high image quality over the entire zoom range. Zooming speed is 20% faster than its predecessor due to the new Advanced Digital Drive Unit, which features an absolute value encoder that is capable of highly accurate position detection and output through 16-bit processing, making it possible to produce highly accurate virtual footage. A new IS control engine further improves image stabilizer performance. This is one lens that is capable of handling a large variety of scenes, telephoto or otherwise, that require versatility in expression, be it relay broadcasts of sports or concerts, or footage of nature.

  • Focal length 10 - 400mm (800mm with extender)
  • 40x zoom and 2.8M MOD (10mm with Macro)
  • Optical Shift Image Stabilizer that differentiates pan and tilt from other vibrations
  • Digital Drive Unit with 16-bit, absolute value encoder

Features

High image quality over a 40x zoom range

6-line monochrome touch panel is sensitive to touch and intuitive to operate. User may also customize the Home Menu page with the frequently used function located in front page for easy navigation. The 40x optical zoom covers a wide range of focal lengths from 10mm to a super telephoto 400mm, with its 2.0x built-in extender making it possible to shoot at up to 800mm. This results in a lens that is ideal for scenes that call for focal length versatility. The lens construction utilizes Hi-UD (Hi Index Ultra Low Dispersion) glass and fluorite lens elements, providing a high MTF from the image center all the way to its peripheries, throughout the entire zoom range. Axial and lateral chromatic aberration are also reduced, particularly at the telephoto end, and ghosting and flaring is minimized, providing the tack sharp images that are essential for HDTV.

Advanced Digital Drive Unit for enhanced operational efficiency

The HJ40ex is equipped with an Advanced Digital Drive Unit with an information display that makes it easy to set, execute and adjust each function. The improved Servo performance realizes zoom, focus and iris drive speeds that are as much as 20% faster than the predecessor model. Meanwhile, the use of an absolute value encoder with 16-bit output enables operation of the camera’s aberration correction function without the need to initialize the encoder during start-up, as well as the ability to perform position detection simultaneously. This ability works together with support for serial communication and ALAC (auto lens aberration compensation) to ensure that footage produced, including virtual footage, is of high quality. Three 20-pin connectors make virtual operation possible even in full servo operation.

New IS control engine for enhanced image stabilization

The new IS control engine features improved image stabilization capabilities across a wide range of frequencies from low to high. Using Canon’s Optical Shift Image Stabilizer (Shift-IS) system results in a smoother camera-shake reduction effect, even for high frequency vibration that footage shot from a vehicle is especially prone to. Even when filming still footage, the IS control engine is capable of differentiating between the camera shake caused by wind and vibrations and that caused by panning and tilting, resulting in more effective image stabilization. IS characteristics and mode (horizontal/vertical) can be set using the information display that is built into the drive unit, and users can also set the degree of the IS effect to Standard, High or Off.
